About the MuseumThe ECSM is housed in a restored school originally built in 1930. The site is a Registered Historic Resource and includes not only the museum, but many other amenities as well. ExhibitsOur exhibits focus on the family and community life of this area during the coal mining boom. From 1928 until the mid-1950's, East Coulee was a major center of coal mining, with up to seven mines operating at once. Visit our restored 1930's classroom, the tiny Miner's Shack, and the Women's Room (where an entire house has been moved inside!) There are also plenty of other exhibits, and of course the building itself is a fascinating architectural treasure. Coming soon - the Science Lab! ArchivesWe have extensive archives including many original papers and period photos. Some of these materials are available to the public. And...The facility also includes a gift shop, post office, library, cafe, playground, and much more!
